According to the reports of the American publisher Take-Two Interactive for Q2 2021 published yesterday, the sales of the game Grand Theft Auto V developed by the British studio Rockstar North exceeded 150 million copies (from September 2013 to July 2021, i.e. in less than 8 years). Apart from Minecraft (which was released in November 2011), it is the best-selling PC game in history. All Grand Theft Auto games have sold 350 million copies since October 1997.

There is still no information on cash revenue for the entire history of sales, but as Gadgets News has already told, 90 million copies were sold as of the end of 2017, and the amount of cash revenue was $ 6 billion. With an average price of $ 67 per game, cash proceeds from 150 million should be about $ 10 (at a development cost of $ 265 million). Let me remind you that the revenue from the distribution of the Avatar movie, the highest-grossing movie in the history of world cinema, amounted to $ 2.8 billion with a budget of $ 237 million.

Despite the huge popularity of the game, it has not yet been ported to the most massive mobile platforms – Android and iOS. In addition to the difficulties of adapting game controllers or keyboard and mouse for a touchscreen display, this is due to the lack of high performance of most smartphones. Comparable to the Intel i7-1165G7 (which copes well with GTA V at a resolution not higher than 1080p and medium settings), in particular, the Apple A14 shows 37 fps in the GFXBench 5.0 Aztec Ruins High 1440p benchmark (according to AnandTech and GSMArena) … However, this is the peak value – after throttling, the steady speed of the Apple A14 drops to 27 fps. At Snapdragon 888 it is at about the same level, so the theoretical prerequisites for porting GTA V to Android and iOS (where only owners of top-end smartphones can play it) will arise no earlier than next year. Apple’s newest tablet, the iPad Pro with an M1 chip, will pull the game today, but desktop game developers are usually indifferent to Apple’s closed ecosystem.

Today Google first showed its smartphones, which will be released in the fall, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. According to the leaks, they will receive displays of 6.4 ? FHD + 90 Hz and 6.7 ? QHD + 120 Hz, respectively, but their main characteristic was revealed by the manufacturer himself – both models will be equipped with a proprietary processor (SoC) Google, Tensor, on which the company has been working for four years. The name alludes to the optimization of the processor (or rather its specialized unit) for performing machine learning operations. Our colleagues from The Verge, who received permission from Google to hold the prototype in their hands, gave examples such as photo and video processing (the quality of the latter, according to their estimates, surpassed that shot on the iPhone 12 Pro Max), as well as real-time language translations (without connecting to the Internet). The Titan M2 co-processor is responsible for security in Tensor, but its characteristics, as well as the characteristics of the CPU and GPU, have not yet been disclosed. Future smartphones also feature better finishes and a more massive camera module, with improved sensor and optics. And of course, the new items will be released with preinstalled Android 12.

Equipping mobile chips with co-processors for machine learning operations has become a trend in recent years – the performance of the A14 Bionic is 11 TOPS (trillion operations per second), and the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 – as many as 26 TOPS. According to Google’s senior vice president of devices and services, Rick Osterlo, unlike its two predecessors, the Pixel 6 is a flagship smartphone. And if personally I have little hope for the outstanding performance of the CPU or GPU of the first Google mobile processor, its tensor unit may well surprise – especially in combination with very high-quality software for photography and video shooting. So far, top-end smartphones have been based on processors from Qualcomm, Samsung and Apple, and to a lesser extent Huawei and MediaTek. For the first time in many years, we will see a smartphone whose chip was traditionally designed by a software company.

This is not the first time that Google has tried to take its place in the smartphone market with some original idea. Several years ago, the company promoted the concept of modular smartphones (Project Ara), and then – using smartphones to create augmented reality models (Project Tango). Both of these projects flopped – as did the dynamic perspective technology in Amazon’s first and so far last smartphone, the Fire Phone. Google’s bet on autonomous and fast execution of machine learning operations seems much more practical and promising – of course, in the case of excellent software execution and sufficiently high hardware performance. High-quality photography and video filming with language translations is just the beginning; in the future, we can talk about technologies like Google Duplex. Obviously, the more intelligent the functionality of a smartphone becomes, the more it will be in demand among users. Namely, in machine learning technologies, Google has a very strong position that will possibly allow it to compete with the giants of the smartphone industry.

Smartphone maker OnePlus put its new Nord 2 on the shelves on Wednesday. The 5G device comes in two versions and is available from 399 euros.

The Nord 2 with 5G is the successor to the first Nord, which was introduced exactly one year ago. According to the manufacturer, the device from the middle segment offers better performance thanks to AI and a smarter camera system with optical image stabilization.

50MP main camera

Chipset on duty is a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 which also takes care of 5G connectivity. The Nord 2 also has a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz and is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery that can be quickly charged via the Warp Charge 65 adapter.

The eye-catcher on the camera island is the 50-megapixel Sony IMX 766 sensor. In addition to that main camera, there is an 8MP wide-angle camera with a range of 119.7 degrees and a 32-megapixel selfie copy. Remarkable: that is, for a front camera, the highest resolution so far on a OnePlus device.

OxygenOS

Also worth mentioning are the improved stereo speakers, Haptics 2.0 for more sensitive tactile feedback and, as a proprietary operating system on top of Android 11, version 11.3 of the OxygenOS. That offers some new features, including Dark Mode, Zen Mode, easy one-handed operation and multiple options for the always-on display (AOD).

The OnePlus Nord 2 comes in two colors, Blue Haze and Gray Sierra. There is a model with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage for 399 euros, and a version with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM for 499 euros.

In a world where we are increasingly electric vehicles, the electric bicycle has also taken off. The Belgian Cowboy adds extra, smart technology and design. Over the past period I have extensively tested the Cowboy 3. You can read how this turned out in this Cowboy 3 review.

Review Cowboy 3 in a nutshell. The Cowboy 3 is a particularly good-looking electric bike with a number of useful, smart features. The app is very well put together and the design is very good. The pedal support also does its job very well, but it lacks, for example, a kickstand, gears and the handles of the Cowboy 3 could use an improvement. The conclusion of the Cowboy 3 review is therefore: an interesting bike, which could use some improvement.

Cowboy: the company

The Belgian bicycle builder

The origin of Cowboy as a company lies in Belgium. The goal after its foundation in 2017 is: to improve mobility in the city and to drive the bicycle safely, efficiently and pleasantly.

This vision is also reflected in a number of elements of the Cowboy 3, which I have tested recently. I’ll come back to that later.

At the time of writing, Cowboy is already ready for Cowboy 4, in which a number of improvements have been made. So this review is specifically about the Cowboy 3.

Before I delve deeper into my experience with this smart electric bike, first an overview of the review.

8Expert Score

The Cowboy 3 electric bike has many smart features. The app works well, the data is interesting and cycling feels very natural. Unfortunately there is no luggage carrier, standard and the handles could be better. Still, the Cowboy 3 is an interesting, smart bike with very good adaptive support.

Pros

  • Very good adaptive support
  • Beautiful design
  • Good battery life / range
  • Built-in GPS
  • Belt (and no chain)
  • Well built app
  • The bike is nice and light

Negatives

  • No standard
  • Handles are not pleasant
  • No lock
  • No gears

Looks en setup

Cowboy 3 in will be glory

Let me get straight to the point: the Cowboy 3 looks great! It is a bike that is designed in a very minimalistic way and has little fuss on board. Aesthetically, I can appreciate this enormously, but you can read later in this review whether these concessions are also worth it for daily use.

The Cowboy 3 is made for commuters, who, for example, go to work or another appointment, often in the city, but of course also outside. At least you do this on a ‘fancy’ smart bike. The color I tested is mineral I personally prefer the (matte) black variant.

Where Cowboy has also done very well with this electric bicycle, processing the lights and getting rid of the battery. Both elements are there when you need them, but certainly not in the way. All this while preserving the design.

The ‘setup’ is simply connecting the bike with your app and account of the Cowboy app. This went smoothly: the connection was made within a minute and the bike could be used immediately.

So far so good: the experience was as it should be: smooth and simple.

Cowboy-app

Cowboy’s showpiece

I love the Cowboy app. As you may know, I once founded Androidworld and extensively tested hundreds of apps in my life. The Cowboy app is one that is simply well put together. Not too many functions, but certainly not too few, which made me very enthusiastic about using it.

In the app you can set a number of things, which are also necessary to unlock the bike. This can also be done automatically with ‘auto unlock’, but I have not enabled this myself. If the bicycle is locked, you can cycle with it, but you will not have pedal assistance that is active. When this is switched on, the lights on the frame of the bicycle will also light up.

Furthermore, you can of course see the routes you have cycled in the Cowboy app, but there is also information about the air quality in your area. A nice addition, which you can adjust your route to. The information about the bicycle, such as the remaining battery and the associated range, is also visible in the app.

To make all this possible, GPS is needed. This way you can see where your bike has been and where it was last seen. This GPS chip is a nice addition, especially if your bike is stolen, you may also be able to extract data from it that brings your bike back.

The app is really one of the big pluses of the Cowboy 3.

Cowboy-app

Daily use

What is going well, but also: what is not

But apart from the looks, the app and all peripheral matters: how does the Cowboy 3 perform in daily use?

As indicated at the beginning of the review, a number of concessions have been made to give the bike a minimalist appearance. There are a few things that I personally miss. Call me old-fashioned, but I find a standard very useful. Due to the lack of this, you must always put the bicycle ‘against’ something and ensure that it does not fall over. Not always optimal. The handles can also be different in my opinion: they are just not that pleasant.

There is also no lock, so closing must always be with a separate lock. Now I used the LiteLok for this myself (which was a nice match), but a standard lock would be handy. A luggage carrier is also missing, but I don’t necessarily have any problems with that, although a bicycle bag could come in handy from time to time.

Now that we’ve got these ‘defects’ out of the way, there’s also a lot going on with the Cowboy 3. The pedal support is especially nice. This supports up to a maximum of 25 km/h (the legal maximum) and the power of this is determined by the force you put on the pedals. So if you want to exert a lot of pressure on this, the support will also increase slightly, so that you can make good progress. The way this is set up is very nice and is at the right level almost 100% of the time.

If you ride a little faster, it would be nice to have one or two more gears. At lower speeds it is not such a problem, but the revolutions go quite quickly at higher speeds. That said, it does fit this type of bike, so it may also be a matter of getting used to it.

Furthermore, the Cowboy 3 does have mudguards, a must in my opinion if you want to arrive at work somewhat clean.

So you can see that a lot is going well with the Cowboy 3, but that there are also the necessary points for improvement. A number of these have been addressed with the Cowboy 4, where, among other things, a standard and luggage carrier can be chosen as an option.

The numbers

The Cowboy 3 is currently only for sale via the company’s own website. After a recent price reduction, the standard version still costs ?1,999 and can be expanded with a number of options such as a smartphone holder and special cover. This gives you extra data available while driving.

There are so many power banks on the market today, but which one should you choose? Over the past few weeks I have extensively tested the Zens magnetic Magsafe power bank. In this review of the Zens Zepp series of power banks I share my experience.

In brief: the Zens magnetic Magsafe power bank is a good choice for anyone with an iPhone and who wants to charge their smartphone quickly. Especially the support for Magsafe and thus wireless charging makes this power bank interesting.

9Expert Score

If you are looking for a well-functioning, premium power bank, then the Zens magnetic Magsafe power bank is definitely a good choice. Especially if your device has support (iPhone 12 or later).

Capacity

  • Works well with Magsafe ? so it just stays put
  • Fast Charging
  • Premium quality
  • Different models available
  • Charging in ‘multiple’ positions (vertical and horizontal)

Recommended retail price

  • Can’t get everything out of this power bank with an Android device
  • No lightning cable included

The Dutch MagSafe power bank

The Dutch Zens has been marketing products related to ‘charging’ for years and is doing this quite successfully. That is why I was pleased to be able to test the new series of power banks.

Before I start reviewing this one Zens magnetic MagSafe power bank, let me first take a closer look at the products available in this series.

There are four products available, each of which has a number of unique properties. The table below shows the entire Essential Zepp series.

Now that we know which power banks are available, we can get started with the review. For the sake of completeness: I tested the Zepp 04M, so the 10,000 mAh version.

Design and unboxing

The eye also wants something, right?

In recent weeks I have tested the Zens Zepp 04M MagSafe power bank, mainly using my phone and Airpods as a ‘test object’ to charge.

Good: first of all, in the box of this battery pack you will find a number of things, namely:

  • The power bank
  • Charging cable (USB-A to USB-C)
  • Manual
  • Warranty card

Now there is not much in the box, but that is actually not really necessary. The fact that there is no USB-C to lightning cable in the box also immediately shows that this power bank is mainly aimed at wireless charging.

Via: GadgetsDaily

The finish of the Zens MagSafe battery pack is absolutely premium and the softtouch finish gives a nice grip. Furthermore, the power bank is relatively simple: a folding leg at the back, five lights for battery indication and a button to activate charging. Finally, there is ? of course ? a port to charge the device (USB-C).

All this makes the MagSafe power bank a good first impression, but how does it work in practice?

Daily use

Tested the Zens MagSafe power bank

Charging is most suitable for MagSafe devices, the new magnetic attachment that Apple has (re) introduced with the iPhone 12. Fortunately, if you want to charge another device with it, that is also possible: this Zens magnetic power bank is Qi certified, so you can also charge other devices wirelessly. In principle, MagSafe only ensures correct placement of the device.

Still, it is a power bank, which, like most Zens products, is aimed at the iPhone. That is exactly the device I tested it with.

The Zens MagSafe power bank can be used in three ways.

  1. Portrait (portrait mode)
  2. Landscape (landscape mode)
  3. Flat on table/desk

Thanks to a handy folding leg, this battery pack can be used in several ways. This is especially useful if, for example, you want to put it on your desk (portrait), or consume media (landscape). This way you can still continue to use your smartphone. Please note: to use this ‘function’ properly, you do need a MagSafe device.

With a ‘naked’ iPhone he found the right place on the charging surface fairly quickly, with a case (Nudient case in my case), it was a bit more difficult. Finally I manage to place the phone on the charger without it falling off.

Still, I liked being able to choose between the modes and knowing that it was still being charged during use.

The version I tested, the Zepp M04, can be used on one side. The Zepp M03 can charge wirelessly on both sides. For example, you can charge your iPhone and Airpods at the same time. I don’t know in which situation this is really useful, but the possibility is there. You then get 6,000 mAh less for the same price, but the charging option on both sides.

Zens magsafe powerbank
Via: GadgetsDaily

In terms of charging speed, Apple has set the maximum for wireless charging at 7.5W. That is the wattage (and therefore the speed) with which the iPhone can be charged to the maximum on this Zens power bank.

The Zens magnetic MagSafe power bank does a lot of good, is certainly not the cheapest battery pack, but I am enthusiastic about it.

Conclusion

4 things to look out for when buying a cheap vacuum cleaner

If you want to score the best cheap vacuum cleaner, you have to pay extra attention to a number of things. This prevents a bad buy and you can be sure that you choose the vacuum cleaner that best suits your household.

1. Do you want a vacuum cleaner with or without a handle?

They have been on the market for a long time, but in recent years you see them more and more: stick vacuums. The big advantage of this is that they are very easy to use. You no longer have a trunk and you don’t have to carry the vacuum cleaner itself up the stairs all the time. Moreover, a stick vacuum is nice and light and easy to use.

However, a stick vacuum also has disadvantages. For example, the capacity is often less ? it fills up quickly and you can’t vacuum the entire house without emptying the dust container ? and the wireless version usually does not have such a strong battery. Usually it is empty after 20 minutes and you sometimes have to wait hours to fully charge the device.

Finally, the suction power of a stick vacuum is often a lot smaller. And that can cause problems if you have a carpet or a rug. Vacuuming mats is also often less successful with a stick vacuum. Of course, all this strongly depends on the price and quality of the device.

If you want to purchase the best cheap vacuum cleaner, take a critical look at the advantages and disadvantages of a stick vacuum compared to a normal version. The latter is usually the sensible choice in the budget segment.

2. Do you want a vacuum cleaner with or without a cord?

The battery of cordless vacuum cleaners gets better every year. About ten years ago we wouldn’t advise anyone to buy a cordless vacuum cleaner, but today the batteries are so powerful and so quickly charged that it is definitely worth considering a cordless device.

However, in the segment of budget vacuum cleaners, experience shows that wireless variants are not always as strong. In this case, it is important to pay attention to the reviews of the device. Sometimes you already see certain trends emerging there, both in a positive and negative sense. It is fine to base your purchase choice partly on this.

3. Do you want a vacuum cleaner with or without a vacuum cleaner bag?

Vacuum cleaner bags. Some you have to completely throw away and replace, others you can empty and reuse and still others are even washable. But did you know that there are also vacuum cleaners with a dust container? In such a case, you no longer need a vacuum cleaner bag at all. And that is of course very convenient to use.

However, the disadvantage of a vacuum cleaner without a vacuum cleaner bag is that the capacity is a lot smaller. In other words: the reservoir is usually full a lot faster. You will therefore have to empty and clean it more often. Ultimately, the question is: do you opt for convenience or do you opt for capacity?

4. Do you want a manually operated vacuum cleaner or a robot vacuum cleaner?

Let’s be honest: you won’t find really good robot vacuum cleaners in the budget segment. But of course it is quite possible that you are interested in this after all. In that case, it is good to also read our article about robot vacuum cleaners.

Taken TVC3001W 600x300

This Tomado is perhaps the best cheap vacuum cleaner of the moment. Why? Because this is simply a very good all-rounder. FIRST PR500SV 3-IN-1

Versatile choice

First PR500SV 3-in-1 600x300

The Primo is the most remarkable vacuum cleaner in the list that we have reviewed. That’s because this vacuum cleaner is a battery-operated stick vacuum. It is said about this vacuum cleaner that it is not a replacement for a normal vacuum cleaner, but we dispute whether that is correct. If you live in a relatively small apartment and you have a smooth floor, then the device is fine as a primary vacuum cleaner.

Of course we understand what is meant by the fact that this is an extra vacuum cleaner. For most people, this vacuum cleaner will serve as a vacuum cleaner for only the upper floor(s) or for a quick vacuum in between. And that’s understandable, because thanks to the handle and battery, this vacuum cleaner is very mobile and easy to use. The removable handheld vacuum is an additional advantage.

  • Battery-operated stick vacuum
  • Comes with wall mount
  • Includes a removable handheld vacuum
  • Supplied in orange with white

Pros

  • Wireless and therefore very mobile in use
  • Ideal for a small apartment or the top floor of your home
  • Removable handheld vacuum

Negatives

  • Short battery life of only 15 to 20 minutes
  • Not suitable for the whole house

  • Suitable for smooth and low-pile floors
  • Supplied with furniture brush

Recently, the Steam Deck was announced – a handheld game console from Valve. This company is known, in particular, for the creation of a number of popular games (including the cult Half-Life) and participation in the development of one of the best virtual reality headsets, HTC Vive. Valve tried to compete with game consoles a few years ago by releasing the Steam Machines series of gaming computers running SteamOS, as well as the Steam Controller, but these products were not commercially successful. And now, after a few months of rumors, the company introduced its new gadget – the Steam Deck mobile game console. Here are some useful things to know about this device:

1. Like Steam Machines, Steam Deck runs on SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system that is free and free (as opposed to Windows, for which Microsoft would have to pay royalties). But unlike Steam Machines, the distribution kit on Steam Deck is not Debian, but Arch Linux. Windows games on SteamOS are run via Valve Proton. This is a modification of Wine – free software for Linux and other OS from the UNIX family, which accepts system calls of Windows applications to operating system libraries and replaces them with its own. It is important to note that Wine (and, accordingly, Valve Proton) is not an operating system emulator, so the loss in application speed is negligible. Another issue is that not all applications will work stably. Moreover, the manufacturer Steam Deck does not prohibit installing any other operating system on the console. And when combined with a docking station (sold separately), monitor, keyboard and mouse, the game console can serve as a full-fledged home PC.

2. The Steam Deck uses a bespoke AMD 4-core CPU (Zen 2 architecture, 2.4-3.5 GHz, up to 448 GFLOPS FP32 performance) and an 8-core GPU (RDNA 2 architecture, 1.0-1.6 GHz (performance up to 1.6 TFLOPS FP32) At maximum frequencies, the overall Steam Deck performance is 2 TFLOPS (for comparison, Xbox Series X – 12 TFLOPS, Xbox Series S – 4 TFLOPS). Most likely in the category of portable consoles, the Steam Deck will be the most productive. to the description of the configuration of the set-top box, you can add 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM, 64 GB eMMC NAND solid-state drive (in older versions – 256 GB NVMe or 512 GB NVMe), a 7 ? 800 1280 LCD 60 Hz display and a 40 Wh battery (which, according to manufacturer, enough for 4 hours of playing Portal 2).

3. The Steam Deck is not the first or only mobile console that can run Windows games. Gadgets News talked, for example, about GPD Win 2. Its successor this year was GPD Win 3 with a 4-core Intel i7-1165G7 or i5-1135G7 processor and Windows 10. Moreover, GPD Win 3 is equipped with a very small, even by the standards smartphones, display 5.5 ? 720 1280 and costs from $ 800 – twice the price of Steam Deck.

3. Compared to Nintendo Switch (width 24 cm, weight 300 g), the Steam Deck is quite large and heavy: width – 30 cm, weight – 670 g. By the way, game consoles from Valve and Nintendo are hardly worth considering as competitors – Switch attracts not only with a mechanical gamepad (which is not available, for example, on smartphones), but also with its exclusives. The Steam Deck will primarily attract the attention of fans of traditional PC games who want to play with all the convenience (as far as possible without a computer mouse) on the road, in the country, etc.

4. Official sales of Steam Deck in Russia should not be expected in the foreseeable future. In the USA, Canada, Great Britain and the EU countries, they start in December (during the Christmas season), so they will reach the rest of the world in 2022 at best. However, the rush demand (not without the participation of resellers) has already exhausted the reserves planned by the manufacturer – now delivery is promised next year. The official price in the US is $ 400 (64 GB), $ 530 (256 GB) and $ 650 (512 GB), but resellers are already offering the console at sky-high prices, up to $ 5,000.
