  1. Thomas Gasser, Philippe Ciais, Simon L. Lewis. How the Glasgow Declaration on Forests can help keep alive the 1.5?°C target. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2022; 119 (23) DOI: 10.1073/pnas.2200519119

At the most recent annual UN climate change conference ? COP26 ? which took place in Glasgow in early November 2021, 141 countries including Brazil, Canada, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Russia, the UK, and the US, signed a pledge to end deforestation across the globe by 2030. The Glasgow Leaders? Declaration on Forests and Land Use is one of several agreements designed to keep the Paris Agreement?s objectives within reach and inextricably ties protecting the world?s forests to the fight against climate change. The declaration has since been hailed by some as one of the most significant forest and land use pledges made during COP26.

However, in their new opinion piece just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), IIASA researcher Thomas Gasser and his colleagues, Philippe Ciais from the IPSL Sciences Laboratory of Climate and the Environment in France, and Simon Lewis from the University of Leeds and University College London in the UK, point out that one crucial detail seems to have been omitted from the pledge: Will the deforestation it aims to halt be gross or net?

Gross and net deforestation differ, the researchers explain, because in most countries, deforestation and reforestation are processes that are continuously happening at the same time.

?The distinction matters, because differing interpretations of how countries can ?end deforestation? significantly impact future carbon dioxide emissions. Put simply, ending gross deforestation would be a major step forward for the climate. But considering only net deforestation could be anecdotal, and even be detrimental to biodiversity,? they write.

With that said, the researchers note that it is important to understand that stopping deforestation in 2030 does not mean having zero CO2 emissions in 2030, due to the complex dynamics of the carbon cycle.

To demonstrate the importance of the distinction between gross and net forest area loss, the researchers developed three scenarios that fulfil the commitment to halt forest area loss by 2030.

In these scenarios, the team illustrated a world where gross or net deforestation in signatory countries comes to a halt by 2030. The first scenario models a situation in which gross deforestation in signatory countries is ended by 2030, while the second explores a world where gross deforestation in signatory countries is reduced, but only to the extent where it matches their business-as-usual gross reforestation levels. In the final scenario, the signatory countries continue with business-as-usual deforestation, but simultaneously increase their forest area by developing new plantations to balance their gross losses.

While all three of these scenarios appear to comply with the declaration, the authors note that they produce very different net carbon gains, showing that the level of emissions reductions (if any) depends on whether gross or net deforestation is reduced to zero. The first scenario sequesters a significant amount of CO2 by 2050, whereas the second one only does half as much, and the last scenario produces no significant carbon sequestration.

?The most important takeaway of our modeling exercise is that the Glasgow Leaders? Declaration on Forests and Land Use is too ambiguous. We must therefore monitor the signatory countries? actions to see whether it will actually deliver on its promises or be just another set of empty promises like the 2014 New York Declaration on Forests that no one remembers,? Gasser concludes.

There is rarely an event in the NBA that does not feature an appearance from Jordan. Furthermore, the NBA is not the only event in which Jordan makes an appearance. He was once spotted along with actor Will Smith.

This happened during the 2012 Olympics, which were held in London. While Team USA celebrated a win, Jordan and Smith got together in Miami.

Yvette Prieto, Jordan?s fiancee back then joined him in the dinner. Interestingly enough, this happened during a time when Will and Jada went through a rocky phase in their relationship.

A major Hollywood feature starring Tom Hanks will be shooting in Niagara County for one day next week.

But no one is saying whether the two-time Oscar winner will be here.

Buffalo Niagara Film Office commissioner Tim Clark declined to comment on specifics about the film but could confirm that there is a “large movie” shooting here next week, adding that it will be a closed set without public access. Local crew and extras are being hired for the one-day shoot. Information on being an extra can be found through Casting Buffalo at castingbuffalo.com; deadline is May 1.

“It is great for the economy and shows that Western New York continues to be a Hollywood backdrop,” Clark said.

The film is ?A Man Called Otto,? a remake of the 2015 Swedish film ?A Man Called Ove.? The feature also stars comedian and actor Mike Birbiglia (“Trainwreck”), Cameron Britton (?Mindhunter?), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (?The Magnificent Seven”) and Mariana Trevino. It is directed by Marc Forster (“World War Z”) and began shooting in Pittsburgh in February.

“A Man Called Otto” will be added to the list of high-profile films made either partially or in full in Western New York. In 2020, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro spent four days filming his Oscar-nominated noir ?Nightmare Alley? here with members of his all-star cast, including Bradley Cooper. The blockbuster ?A Quiet Place Part II? was made entirely in the Buffalo area in 2019.

Other films made here recently include “Marshall,” “The First Purge,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” “Cabrini,” ?Prick?d? and “Cold Brook” from actor and former Cheektowaga resident William Fichtner.

In “A Man Called Otto,” Hanks stars as a grumpy widower who takes his frustrations out on his neighbors. Just when he?s ready to give up, a new family moves in next door. The original film, ?A Man Called Ove,? was based on Fredrik Backman?s 2012 bestseller of the same name and was the highest-grossing foreign film in the U.S. in 2016. It earned two Oscar nominations.

A Dec. 25 release date is planned by Sony Pictures for the Hanks film.

Another day, another promising property succumbing to a seemingly neverending pandemic. The latest victim, sadly, arrives at the hands of streamer HBO Max, which has decided not to move forward Americanah. The previously slated drama series was an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie?s novel from Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong?o. According to Varietyplans for the show fell through after Nyong?o ?was forced to exit? due to scheduling conflicts.

The issue stems from the evolving production schedule: As quarantine continued to push filming back, the new dates began to impeded on Nyong?o?s other scheduled projects. Originally confirmed for a 10-episdoe season, Nyongo?s was billed as the star while Gurira signed on to showrun. Both women were to serve as executive producers. Uzo Aduba, Corey Hawkins, Zackary Momoh, and Tireni Oyenusi rounded out the former cast. The story follows Nigerian woman Ifemelu, who departs for America while her love Obinze must live an undocumented life in London.

Americanah is the latest casualty of this upending COVID era of entertainment. Netflix, ABC, Showtime, and other networks made similar reversals over the past weeks, nixing previously determined renewals for GLOW, Stumptown, On Becoming A God In Central Florida (an especially puzzling development, considering that Showtime somehow made room for more Dexterof all things), and other. It?s unclear as to why these shows aren?t allowed to just wait out the quarantine, but it?s possible that contracts play a major part in what is allowed to stay and what gets nullified. (And considering Americanah?s star-studded roster, perhaps cancelling the project made more financial sense than potentially triggering costly payouts on a stymied project.) But the trend appears to be hitting shows helmed by women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ performers the hardest. Per The Observer17 of the 23 show canned by Netflix alone centered on marginalized characters while legacy shows largely remain on hold. Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo has proven his mastery of the Wookiee roar. But at the Solo: A Star Wars Story premiere on Thursday in Hollywood, it was nice to hear the 31-year-old speak English.

“Thanks for giving me all that dialogue,” Suotamo quipped to Solo screenwriters Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan on the red carpet. “I especially love the line where I say, (makes Wookiee utterance).”

“That was one of your sharpest jokes,” laughed Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote Return of the Jedi.

In reality, the 6-foot-10 Suotamo spent much of his time on the Solo set saying nothing and profusely perspiring. Even though the former basketball player has been playing the role since doubling for Peter Mayhew on 2015’s The Force Awakenshe says the job hasn’t gotten any less sweaty.

“That?s one constant,” he told USA TODAY on the red carpet. “(The suit) is still as hot as it was then. But because I?ve asked for the fans to be brought out more often, they know now that this Wookiee, if he doesn?t cool down, he?s gonna be even angrier the next day.”

To cope with the unbearable heat of wearing a furry suit, Suotamo says he tried to take off his Chewie head in between takes, revealing the dark raccoon makeup around his eyes. However, other times he had to keep the hat on, because for close-ups he had hairs glued to his eyes that couldn’t be easily removed.

The longest he’s worn the head and Chewbacca body straight? Four hours.

“That always feels a little claustraphobic,” Suotamo said. “On heavy days like that, I like to just sit down and look at the wall.”

Though playing Han Solo’s best friend is exhausting, “I suffer it, because I love this character,” he said.

Suotamo’s castmates love the character, too.

Emilia Clarke, who plays Qi’Ra, said at the premiere, “(If) I’m having a bad day, (I tell Joonas to) just come here. Chewie always has time for a hug.”

More: Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo audition involved reading with a dog puppet

And director Ron Howard said a Wookiee embrace was an important way for him to start work on the Star Wars spinoff film.

“I got a big Chewbacca hug on day one, and a fist bump. And that was really an experience every movie maker ought to have. It was a rare one, but it was very affirming.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters May 25.

Acclaimed actress Embeth Davidtz survived cancer and incorporated her mental and physical experiences into Showtime?s EmmyŽ-winning drama Ray Donovan.

Actress Embeth Davidtz has been cancer free for four-and-a-half years.

That sentence feels like the single most important sentence you will read in this interview. Cancer touches all of us. We either experience it first-hand, or we know someone who did. Embeth Davidtz dealt with an intensely difficult cancer experience but emerged stronger on the other side.

?I?m still looking over my shoulder a little bit. Everyone tells me its going to be fine, so I just like to take that as the gospel on it,? Davidtz confessed during our phone interview.

After taking time off to deal with the diagnosis and recover, Davidtz returned to acting via Showtime?s Golden Globe and Emmy-winning drama Ray Donovan. Most importantly, she received the unique opportunity to mold her character and incorporate her recent experiences into the role.

As a result, awards watchers point to Embeth Davidtz as a strong candidate for Emmy?s Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Her Initial Diagnosis

Davidtz?s initial cancer diagnosis emerged as a complete shock. In 2013 at age 47, she discovered a lump she thought only a cyst. As many would, she didn?t even consider cancer a possibility. By habit, she ate well, exercised, and attended regular mammograms and ultrasounds. She did everything prescribed to avoid developing cancer.

Unfortunately, it didn?t work.

?No part of me that suspected it could have been cancer. It couldn?t possibly happen to me,? Davidtz confessed.

When her radiologist revealed the true nature of the lump, Davidtz sought treatment options and formed a strong resolve to fight the disease. After all, she had two small children at the time. She felt determined to  live and see them grow into adults.

Fortunately, Davidtz discovered she was ?triple positive.? That diagnosis meant she could use the cancer drug Herceptin, which slows cancer growth. Without that drug, the end result likely would have been strikingly different. Her cancer appeared as a rapid growing cancer difficult to fight.

With the growth in check, Davidtz pursued standard chemo treatment. She also opted for a double mastectomy.

?Everyone said to me, ?Why would you take off the other breast when one of them is just fine?? To me, I felt like I was walking around with a ticking time bomb in my body. There was something that went wrong, and I didn?t want to experience that again.?

The recovery process took a great deal out of her. The drug that saved her life also made the healing process slower. Yet, Davidtz continued to make public appearances even with a ?radical haircut,? as she put it.

Four years later, enter Ray Donovan.

Showtime?s Ray Donovan ticked off all the right boxes for Embeth Davidtz. It?s a great show airing during the Platinum Age of Television. It also shot in Los Angeles when not much else does, allowing Davidtz to remain close to her children during filming. Finally, she found herself very attracted to the mystery and glamour of Sonia Kovitzky, art dealer.

But as originally written, Sonia did not have a breast cancer backstory.

Since the character arc included love scenes, Davidtz?s contract contained a nudity rider. Rather than reveal her mid-reconstruction physique, she obtained a prosthetic nipple to avoid revealing her surgical scar. That, however, never felt exactly right.

?There was something nagging at the back of my mind. I kept thinking there was something not authentic about putting on a prosthetic nipple. Then, we?d been talking about [Sonia?s backstory]. I kept thinking about this scar, but what if we use the scar? I?d heard this story about a very famous English actress who had her nipple bitten off by a lover in a fit of passion, and so I brought that up. It was hard because I had to reveal to David [Hollander, showrunner] what my history was.?

Davidtz worried that the production would consider her unhealthy after learning of the diagnosis, but the team (Davidtz included) immediately began developing the character as a breast cancer survivor. That history informed Sonia?s reckless decision-making processes through the season.

Overall, filming proved challenging for Davidtz. She experienced some cognitive changes as a result of the intensive medication. Historically, she possessed a near-photographic memory for scripts, but on Ray Donovanshe found she needed to work strenuously to remember lines.

Ironically, filming the actual nude scene itself wasn?t as difficult as one might imagine.

?The room was so beautifully set up. It was almost like being a piece of art in an art installation,? Davidtz shared. ?David really made it almost this kind of romantic thing. It wasn?t as bad as it might have been.?

Speaking Publicly After That Scene

During the fourth season of Ray DonovanDavidtz?s Sonia shares an intimate moment with Liev Schreiber?s Ray. The scene featured frontal nudity from Davidtz, and her cancer experience revealed itself for the public to absorb. It was a nerve-wracking moment for Davidtz.

?It was really, really terrifying. I think that we, as a society, have stigmatized cancer. It?s not something I?ve had much experience with, and so when it happened to me, there was a part of me that felt there was something dirty and wrong and bad. I wondered what had I done? What was at fault? What was imperfect about me that caused this to happen to me??

Davidtz posits that many more people in Hollywood experienced cancer, particularly women and breast cancer, than speak about it publicly. She believes few want to put themselves out there as a public face of imperfection and disease. It exists as an unspoken taboo, and for Davidtz, it was a tough choice to expose herself as an actress.

Yet, her choice helped give a voice to those who suffered from the disease. Not just a voice, but a sense that they didn?t have to be ashamed of their diagnosis or of its impact on their body.

?There was a lot of very positive feedback and women saying, ?I felt ugly until I saw that scene. That scene made me feel beautiful,? ? Davidtz shared. ?I never didn?t feel beautiful even with the scar and even with the loss of a part of my body. That?s what we tried to show in that scene. There?s a woman who is still able to be attractive to somebody like Ray despite her body being carved up in a way.?

Learning From the Experience

Embeth Davidtz’s Ray Donovan performance merits serious Emmy consideration. But that?s not why she did it. Of course, that attention would provide an additional platform. A universal platform from which she could speak of her diagnosis and recovery. In a way, though, Ray Donovan already provided that opportunity.

Naturally, news spread of her actual diagnosis and how she helped incorporate her survival story into Sonia Kovitzky?s evolution. That revelation opened up a flood of letters from cancer survivors. She even received the opportunity to speak at a Northwestern medical symposium on representations of the female body in film and television.

As terrifying as cancer feels, the overall experience proved infinitely rewarding thanks to the incredible outpouring of appreciation from survivors.

?It was more the personal letters and personal stories of people who felt uplifted by it,? Davidtz shared. ?That was the biggest reward.?

Here?s a collection curated by The Associated Press? entertainment journalists of what?s arriving on TV, streaming services and music platforms this week.

? Adam Sandler, long a pick-up player, channels his affection for basketball into Jeremiah Zagar?s ?Hustle,” debuting Friday on Netflix. In the film, produced by Lebron James, Sandler plays Stanley Sugarman, a scout for the Philadelphia 76ers who discovers a streetballer in Spain (played by Utah Jazz forward Juancho Hernangómez). Filled with real NBA players and TV personalities, ?Hustle? captures a surprisingly authentic view of professional basketball and the people on its sidelines driven by their love for the game.

– Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes’ ?The Janes? is about a group of women who banded together in Chicago in the late ?60s and early ?70s to clandestinely offer illegal abortions to women who needed them in the years before the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade. The film, which debuts on HBO and HBO Max on Wednesday, has obvious new relevance after the leak of a draft opinion suggesting the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to overturn the landmark decision legalizing abortion. ?The Janes? compiles the stories and testimonies of an earlier generation of women?s rights advocates.

? Summer movie season, with its massive big-budget franchise films, is in full swing. But the Criterion Channel this month is making the case that less can be more. The streaming service is hosting a series of microbudget movies made for $150,000 or less. Many of them are classics despite ? or because of ? their gritty leanness, including the nasty noir ?Detour,? Melvin Van Peebles? Blaxploitation triumph ?Sweet Sweetback?s Baadasssss Song,? Jim Jarmusch?s breakthrough ?Stranger Than Paradise? and Christopher Nolan?s debut ?Following.?

? AP Film Writer Jake Coyle

? Carrie Underwood seems to be aiming for that sweet spot between country and pop with her new album out Friday, June 10, ?Denim & Rhinestones.? The title track is a perfect mix of genres with the lyrics: ?You?re the cool and I?m the fire/No, we?re never going out of style.? Underwood co-wrote 11 of the 12 tracks on ?Denim & Rhinestones? with many of her frequent collaborators such as David Garcia, Hillary Lindsey, Josh Miller, Ashley Gorley, Josh Kear and Chris DeStefano. Some new co-writers include Michael Hardy and Lydia Vaughan, who co-wrote ?If I Didn?t Love You,? Underwood?s hit duet with Jason Aldean.

? A lot of BTS drops Friday and we mean a lot. ? ?All Rise? was canceled by CBS after two seasons, but the verdict was reversed when the OWN channel gave the legal drama a new home. Simone Missick stars as Lola Carmichael, a respected former deputy district attorney who?s making waves as a new judge. ?All Rise,? debuting Tuesday, picks up six months after season two?s conclusion as it follows the personal and professional lives of Judge Carmichael and the prosecutors, public defenders and others in the beehive of a Los Angeles courthouse. Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho and Marg Helgenberger are part of the cast.

? Stephen Merchant moves onto radically different turf with BritBox?s ?The Barking Murders,? a three-part drama based on the real-life story of a British serial killer, how police investigated the crimes and their effect on the gay community he targeted. Merchant is known as a comedy creator and actor (the original ?The Office,? ?Extras?) who?s appeared in dramas (?Logan,? as Caliban), but here he takes on the lead role of Stephen Port, who?s serving a life sentence for rape and four murders. ?The Barking Murders? debuts Tuesday on the streaming service.

? The characters are Gen Z middle-schoolers but the comedy is aimed at adults in ?Fairfax,? the Amazon Prime animated series returning for its sophomore season on Friday, June 10. Billy Porter, Camila Mendes, Yvette Nicole Brown and Guy Fieri are among the guest voice actors popping in on the series, which takes a bemused look at four besties growing up in a social-media dominated world amid the familiar challenges and angst of the early teen years. Skyler Gisondo, Kiersey Clemons, Peter S. Kim and Jaboukie Young-White star.

Taika Waititi is a one-of-a-kind filmmaker from New Zealand who has taken the world by storm in recent years. After finding mainstream Hollywood success with Thor: RagnarokWaititi’s star has been well and truly on the rise, from an Academy Award nomination for his work on Jojo Rabbit to launching the HBO Max series, Our Flag Means Death.

RELATED: Taika Waititi to Adapt Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Graphic Novel ‘The Incal’

Waititi is returning to the Marvel universe this year with the hotly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder. But did you know Waititi was an accomplished filmmaker long before Marvel hired him for Ragnarok? He has made many fine films in his native New Zealand, from semi-autobiographical comedies about a boy named Boy to awkward rom-com in the vein of Napoleon Dynamite.

8) ‘Eagle vs. Shark’ (2007)

After making a name for himself directing several shorts, one of which (Two Cars, One Night) was nominated for an Oscar, Taika Waititi was first given the reins of a full-length feature for this 2007 effort. At the height of the awkward humor movement typified by Ricky GervaisThe Office amongst others, this film was in that style.

Eagle vs. Shark isn’t a bad film as such. It’s very clearly a debut, and Taika’s work here is nowhere near as assured here as his later efforts would become. There’s also something of a dilution of his creative voice here, as he has a story by credit, but others wrote the actual dialogue. It’s still worth a look ? if for nothing else to see the blueprints for the style he would later develop to greater success.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

7) ‘Thor: Raganarok’ (2017)

“…who?” was the collective reaction from fans when Taika Waititi was announced as the writer/director of the third solo Thor film. Given the relative disappointment of the previous two entries in the franchise, though, Waititi enjoyed something of a blank cheque and an invitation to reinvent the character in his own way.

While this is certainly a fun film and one of Marvel’s better blockbusters, the fact is that the pure essence of what makes Waititi such a great artist is again somewhat distilled in this film. Like many filmmakers before him, Waititi tries to inject much of his own panache into this film ? and does better than a lot ? but is still restricted by the demands and expectations of both studio and genre.

6) ‘Wellington Paranormal’ (2018-2022)

A spin-off of sorts, Wellington Paranormal, follows the misadventures of the two hapless police officers who investigate the sharehouse briefly in What We Do in the Shadows, Officers Minogue (Mike Minogue) and O’Leary (Karen O’Leary), as they investigate various supernatural occurrences in sleepy Wellington. Expanding the scope to include all nature of supernatural beings, this is like New Zealand’s X-Files if it was a comedy.

RELATED: All Wellington Paranormal Season 2 Mysteries, Ranked

This show definitely has its moments, carrying over the same sort of dry, matter-of-fact humor that made the original film such a hit. However ? in what seems to be a theme for these lower entries ? it again suffers from dissolution, and this series is perhaps proof that as good a creative as Waititi is, he can’t be everywhere at once. Leaving the writing duties to others makes sense, but it also lacks his distinct voice.

5) ‘Our Flag Means Death’ (2022-)

Despite not having aired its complete series as of writing, Our Flag Means Death has quickly become one of the best offerings from the slate of HBO Max’s original programming and a showcase for the comedic powerhouse and quite possibly funniest man on the planet, Rhys Darby, to strut his stuff.

Despite having relatively little to do with the creative process, Our Flag Means Death showcases another aspect of Waititi’s prodigious talent ? his influence. It’s obvious Waititi’s work has heavily influenced this series, and the bar it sets quality-wise could easily make it to the pirate genre as What We Do in the Shadows is for vampires. Plus, his take on Blackbeard is fun, unique, and, as always very watchable.

4) ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ (2016)

The best of Taika’s work mixes his comedic gifts with more heartfelt material, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of the best examples we’ve seen of this from the director. After being through foster families in the city to no avail, misfit orphan Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) is adopted by a childless couple (portrayed by Rima Te Wiata and Sam Neill) from the country. However, after tragedy strikes, they go on the run together.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is Taika at his most sincere and charming. Anchored by two great performances from Neill and newcomer Dennison, it has all the best themes of Taika’s work ? and some great humor besides. Rhys Darby’s cameo as a bush-dwelling conspiracy theorist is a particular highlight, as is the director himself playing a clueless Anglican minister.

3) ‘Boy’ (2010)

Of Taika’s films, Boy is one of the most straightforward and honest. It tells the story of the titular Boy (James Rolleston), a Maori kid growing up in the 80s who idolizes two people: Michael Jacksonand his absentee father (Waititi). However, once his father returns, the lines between fantasy and reality blur, and Boy is forced to do some growing up to confront his father’s true nature.

RELATED: Taika Waitit’s Animated Flash Gordon Movie Is Now Live-Action

Based on his Oscar-nominated short film, Two Cars, One Night, Boy is a more complete picture of the emerging creative force that Taika would become than his previous effort. This is the first feature where he has a sole writing credit, and the purity of his creative voice is allowed to shine through. Again mixing funny and heartfelt elements, Boy is one of Taika’s best.

2) ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ (Film & TV Show, 2014 & 2019-)

It’s such a deceptively simple concept that, amazingly, it hadn’t been done before. Taika takes one of the most terrifying supernatural creatures in literature, and masterfully flips the script by giving them very human problems ? namely, the trials and tribulations of the necessity of shared housing in the inner city.

Whether talking about the film itself or the TV show, this concept is hilarious, and the creative team is incredibly adept at bringing this humor to the surface. Whether in Wellington or Staten Island, these vampires are less the stuff of nightmares and more the kind of people you’d want to have a beer with.

1) ‘Jojo Rabbit’ (2019)

On paper, this could have gone so very badly. A period piece set in Nazi Germany, about a brainwashed boy (Roman Griffin Davis) who hallucinates Hitler (Waititi) as his best friend? The margin for error on such a concept is so small as to be almost minuscule ? but then again, if anyone was going to pull it off, Taika Waititi was probably one of the prime candidates.

And pull it off he did. This film more than any other is the best representation of what he strives for as a creative ? a melding of the absurd, funny, and touching into a cohesive whole. It will have you laughing, crying, questioning, and eventually fist-pumping with it. Jojo Rabbit is a true tour-de-force of one of the world’s most exciting current filmmakers.
